Scottish dailies suffer circulation falls

Every Scottish regional daily newspaper has recorded a fall in circulation over the past year, with Johnston Press's Edinburgh Evening News taking the biggest hit.
The title suffered a 7.5% year-on-year fall in circulation to 56,135, a drop of 4,569 copies over the past 12 months, according to figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations for the six months to the end of June 2006.

But none of Scotland's big city hitters was immune to the downturn in sales. The biggest regional evening title in Scotland, Newsquest's Glasgow Evening Times, only just managed to stay above 80,000.

The Evening Times' circulation fell 3,752 copies short of its June 2005 figure, down 4.4% year-on-year to 80,705.
