Sun to move to Bishopbriggs?

Mail Move Sharpens Rumours at Sun

The removal vans will be soon outside the Scottish Daily Mail’s offices at the top of Renfield Street in Glasgow, ahead of a move tomorrow to a new base - at 20 Waterloo Place - near the city’s Central Station.
They have been bunking up with stv, which has itself moved to a new location, at Pacific Quay.
But what of other hacks, especially at the Scottish Sun, who are said to be fretting over rumours that they are to be shifted to the old Collins book offices in far-off Bishopbriggs when their Kinning Park HQ shuts next year.

Sun set for possible move to Bishopbriggs

THERE was speculation this week that the Sun newspaper was getting set to move its Scottish editorial division to Bishopbriggs.
It's believed a move to the Harper Collins buildings in Westerhill Road has been considered by Sun bosses.
A spokeswoman for Harper Collins said: "We are currently talking to a number of companies regarding the vacant Norwich Union building, but no deals have been concluded yet."

Scottish dailies suffer circulation falls

Every Scottish regional daily newspaper has recorded a fall in circulation over the past year, with Johnston Press's Edinburgh Evening News taking the biggest hit.
The title suffered a 7.5% year-on-year fall in circulation to 56,135, a drop of 4,569 copies over the past 12 months, according to figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations for the six months to the end of June 2006.

But none of Scotland's big city hitters was immune to the downturn in sales. The biggest regional evening title in Scotland, Newsquest's Glasgow Evening Times, only just managed to stay above 80,000.

The Evening Times' circulation fell 3,752 copies short of its June 2005 figure, down 4.4% year-on-year to 80,705.

Record Staff Accept Argument About New Editions

Possible unrest at The Daily Record about the imminent launch of evening editions in Glasgow and Edinburgh - and, likely, elsewhere in Scotland - was yesterday averted by management assurances it would work constructively with the National Union of Journalists to sort out any possible problems.
Staff from the title met yesterday afternoon, with concerns about shift payments, plus the impact of extra shifts on people’s quality or work, uppermost in their minds.

Record PM update

War as Scots get their own PM

The war of London afternoon freesheets started in a terrible rush on Friday, as the Standard attempted to beat Murdoch's challenger, due imminently. It will be bloody. But pause a second to look north as two not particularly free evening sheets called PMs arrive in Edinburgh and Glasgow, courtesy of the Daily Record. Call them a 'pugnacious' response to a Scottish Sun 10p price-cut campaign that has pushed the Record into second place but also see them as tanks on the lawns of Johnston Press in Edinburgh and Newsquest (alias Gannett of the US) in Glasgow.

Sun v Record

It’s The Sun wot won it … for now

IT was party time for The Scottish Sun last week as it ended the Daily Record’s 32-year reign as the best selling daily paper in Scotland.
The news that it sold 393,953 against the Record’s 383,785 in July ends an anomaly that has stuck in the craw of Team Murdoch for decades.

Record feels heat of Scots Sun at its back

The day Rob Dalton turned up to meet me for lunch wearing an ill-fitting suit, black woolly gloves and a rolled-up copy of The Sun under his arm I knew he wasn't the really the man for the Kinning Park hot seat. I couldn't work out whether the paper was to help me identify him or whether he just hadn't got round to reading it.
